The Witcher 2 Patch 1.1 Is… Still Incoming

As fate would have it, us fans and players of The Witcher 2 have been denied the hallowed release of Patch 1.1. According to CDProjekt’s latest updates, the patch seems to be ready but very unfortunately, the server isn’t. Have a look.

I know I know, both screen captures tell the same story pretty much. I just felt like tossing in the Facebook update for good measure. I would have put up the Twitter one as well but I can’t seem to get it running on my browser at the moment.

I’ve been on the comment boards of The Witcher’s homepage and while I can fully empathize with the frustration some of these gamers are facing, there really isn’t any justification for all the hate and rage being thrown about. Worse still are them “fans” who post threats on the comment boards suggesting the use of cracks and third party fixes due to the company’s supposed negligence and inefficiency, claiming that their purchase was a waste of money. To these people, I say to you, “Grow up, why don’t you.”

I’m not going to fault CDProjekt for the patch’s late release. There really isn’t any point in hurling any hate or blame, much less in raging. In the grand scheme of things, they’ve done a great job with the game as is and for the past week or so, they’ve pretty much been busting their asses to get the first wave of fixes out with Patch 1.1. They’ve even gone as far as to promise a second wave of fixes, specifically targeted at hardware and driver issues, with Patch 1.2 due within the next couple of weeks.

All things considered, barring all them technical issues us players are facing (which is common enough for any new release by the way), CDProjekt has done quite an awesome job thus far. Personally, I kind of wished that they’d provide more in the way of updates and specific ETAs but chances are, most of their manpower has been delegated to either work on the patch or deal with the likely influx of e-mails and virtual cries for help.

Patch wise, for those who’ve not been keeping up, here’s another link with a rough set of preliminary patch notes.

Just as well, here’s a link to my previous post on some of the issues players have run into without Patch 1.1. I’ve only touched on some of the more common problems that have surfaced so if you find yourself having to deal with something that I didn’t write about, you might want to have a go at Google. If it helps, I’ve caught sight of a number of forum posts and articles listing workarounds and tweaks for some of the problems you might be facing. It won’t be hard to find.

Patch 1.1 will come when the servers are stabilized, hopefully sooner than later. Till then, we’ll just have to have some faith, keep our cool and wait.
